It really depends on your budget. Can you afford to go abroad. Anywhere in Europe would be great. There is a hotel in Edinburgh (Scotland) called Witchery by the Castle. It has 6 rooms filled with antiques, and things like a four poster bed, a claw foot bath for two. The room comes with champagne and chocolates, and they have a restaurant across the road called the secret garden, which is lit by candle and looks like you are sitting in a gothic church (and the food is spectacular as well). In the morning they deliver breakfast to your room.

More domestic ideas, you could hire a house boat on a lake somewhere, or if it ski season, get a private cabin on the slopes. If there is something that you both really enjoy doing, try planning a holiday around that.

I know a woman who took her husband to Orlando, Florida and spent the week going to disneyworld, epcott etc. It was what they liked to do.

if your husband is in Iraq his perfect vacation would probably be home - everything that he is familiar with and does not have to worry about miscommunication. make sure that your husband wants to go on a vacation in the first place. if you are looking as something exotic, regardless of the money, take a cruise on the carribian or go to dominican republic or jamaica. if you want something simpler, though, simply take a cross-country trip - it is educational, fun, and you get to spend a lot of time together.

I live overseas and travel extensively. My favorite sources for planning are the forums at www.tripadvisor.com or the thorntree at lonelyplanet.com. Interested in a location recommendation? Thailand would be my #1 choice! Have fun!

I've been to Barbados 5 times so far and love it! :D
