I work in an Ear, Nose & Throat Doctors office, and I suggest calling them if you are concerned. It may just be inflammation in the area of the surgery, but I'm sure you'd rather hear it from the expert. Can he/she sleep on his/her side? …see if that helps.

Also it's very important that your child is drinking LOTS and LOTS of fluid to keep the throat moist to minimize scabbing.

Tell the doctor who handled his surgery, and if they won't see your child than take then to your normal pediatrician to be checked out. It could be normal, but it's always better to be safe than sorry.
