what is that little chip plate where you could left it up with a flat head screw driver next to the gear plate? If you go out inside the car..you will see a little chip above the gear thing...where that little chip can be removed with a flathead screw driver

Its the shifter override it will release the shifter if all power is gone like a dead battery.

It's the emergency gear release. These cars cannot be taken out of park without getting an electrical signal from the brake switch that the brakes are on. In the event of a dead battery, there is no way of taking the trans out of park for towing, so they pop open the plate and push on a release lever inside to manually release the gear selector, as long as the key is in the unlocked position.

Its the gear lock release. If your battery is dead or etc. and it needs to be towed or pushed and taken out of park, then lift that up and press it.
