BLACK POMERANIAN:
I adopted a dog from our local shelter and they estimate his age to be 8 years old. My vet (and I) seems to think that he is older than that because he has a mild cloudiness in his eyes, too. (cataracts) His muzzle and around his eyes are gray. His teeth have just been cleaned, but are the color of ivory....still yellowish. Any guesses?

There was no prior history on him as he was a stray that someone found and turned in to the shelter.

I once had a MinPin that developed cataracts at the age of about 11

He has been neutered, knows commands and is housebroken, so whoever had him, spent time with him. I don't know why he became a stray!

MARSHA: That's what I thought, too. My vet said that 8 would be the absolute youngest he could be and it is highly unlikely he is 8 because he has too many signs of old age. THANKS!!!!

He's probably about ten years old. My dog is turning ten and he has ivory teeth and a few gray whiskers

Does your pooch have any of those funky little "warts" on his skin? These seem to hit at about 10 years of age. A white muzzle doesn't mean a lot, some breeds are effected by premature graying genes just like some people. Good thing is that small breeds live to be 16 or older if well cared for. I wish you many good years of Pomeranian love.

Alot depends on how he was cared for thru his life. I have an 8 year old spayed female who has no gray on her muzzle and teeth so white and clean the vet thought she was about 3. Bred her myself so I know she is 8.

I'd say about 8 or 9 sounds right. That is like 56-63 in human years.

i have seen eyes turn that way at that age and younger. being a black pom his muzzle will turn whiter at a earlier age than a liter age.
