I reckon that viruses sometimes attack the giants like Norton and McAffee.
From my experience, F-Secure is by far the best I've seen, however, it also costs. I use AVG with spot checks via PCcillin's "Housecall" web based virus check.
Norton's website is great for finding removers as a last line of defense, but I wouldn't trust their software as the first line.

Kapersky is reputed to be the best but there are many free ones like Alwil's Avast! 4 Home and Grisoft AVG. I use Avast.
Don't use Norton. It slows the PC and gets in the way of almost anything!

Norton is one of the best although it isnt much good if you have a slower computer
McAffee is one of the WORST
but one of the BEST over all is Grisofts AVG.... there is a free version and htere is a full version, if you are planing on paying for one of the others get the free version and try it see if you like it and then buy the full version... there are added extras and a few handy bonuses :)

AVG free edition, it is excellent, better that all the top brands, just type "avg free" in google, then download it.
I have run this alongside mc afee, norton and hedski, the three found nothing at all,
avg found 5 trojans and 2 back door
its excellent, honestly

the absolut super duper best is "norton antivirus"
and "norton firewall" is a good firewall too.
