My son is 18 years old, unemployed(job market is terrible here), caucasian ethnicity, fairly tall(6'3) and he wants curly hair(similar to Sanjaya Malakar(sp?) on American Idol). Evidently he has shown an interest. He currently has straight medium brown hair and its almost medium length. It has never been colored or treated. He wants to experiment with his hair.

I'll be paying so, I need advice. Pros/Cons, etc... just anything can help.

He would like it done by the end of next week, so I need immediate responses.

Please help! Give me all the advice you can give!

He'd like to try a different hairstyle.

Curling iron? It seems a bit too high maintenence. Having to do it every day and so forth.

As long as he can make it presentable for job interviews, let him experiment. Kids that age need to. Perhaps it would give him an extra ego/psychological boost in his self confidence when he's sitting for an interview, and maybe it will come across to the prospective employer.

I would say that if he wants the perm, he should pay for it, especially if he's doing it as a joke or just messing around. If he isn't and if you think it's just a one time thing, take a picture and laugh about it a year later.

It's quite possible a perm won't take on his hair. But if it does, he should tell them he doesn't want a tight perm. Does he realize if he doesn't like it, he's stuck for several months? How successful are male job applicants with perms in your area?

i would make a deal with your son, that if he goes out and gets a job then you will pay for his perm....
and i have this friend (braden) and he had his hair permed and his is also white, and it looked good.
there are some hair places were you can get your picture taken and they ill put differnet hair styles on to "experiment" that way....

um...i dont know what else to say, so i hope i helped!

good luck to you and your son.
