I would like to name our baby, if a boy, after my husband's grandfather but we aren't sure if we should add a suffix to it. No one in the family has his full name except him so our baby would be the first. Do I need to add Jr. or II (the second) for our baby?

II is perfectly acceptable when you're naming a child after a grandparent or great grandparent. A prime example is Henry Ford II, son of Edsel Ford and grandson of Henry Ford. Junior's only really used when the child is named after the father. But then again, any name you put on the birth certificate is perfectly legal and acceptable if it's what you want to name your baby. Congrats and I hope you and your husband have a beautiful healthy child.

Jr is generally used only if the baby is named after the father. II is generally used in were the baby is named after someone other than the father in the bloodline with some exceptions. My cousin is a II even though he has the same name as his father. In your case, the baby is the first with that full name so he doesn't necessitate Jr or II.

I think it should be the II. I would use Jr. if he were sharing a name with his father.
