if you have to cut, use a clean blade and sterilize it.
Also keep your wounds clean.
Most importantly seek help from a counselor.
That would be the only way that you will find a way to stop....
they will help you to identify the problem and then you can find a cure.
cutting is just the symptom as coughing is a symptom of a cold.
cure the cold and the coughing will stop

My answer to this question is that you need to stop. Why? Because at one point you're going to cut one very important vein and then you're going to bleed to death and die. Not to be "Shallow" or anything but it's the truth. If you decide to keep hurting yourself, no one is going to be there to save you. And you're making a very Risky decision. The best thing of making you feel better when you are sad or hurt/mad is not cutting yourself. My opinion is that you talk to someone: Express yourself and or feelings. Also, It's possible that if someone catches you doing this to yourself you'll end up somewhere you wouldn't want to be: A crazy house! So keep it safe and don't hurt yourself.

Cutting is a sign from within you. Part of you is really confused. Part of you feels better when you cut because it takes all other things away. There are a lot of people that understand the way you think. Please find one and talk with them. Maybe they can tell you why they cut and what made them stop. Don't start with your folks. Start with help lines or even call the cops, they can give you a number to call. Call them from a payphone so they don't get your number. The important thing is to call.

Look, everyone has problems. People like to think they are the only ones with those problems, but they aren't. Go talk to someone, and work things out. Think about this though, how in the world does hurting yourself physically make the emotional self feel better. I mean the only physical pain you should have might be a lil kinky sex from time to time, or maybe thats just me. But yea, Life is to short to be depressed and cut yourself, find a hobby, talk to someone, have fun.

1.) understand WHY this happens
http://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/pto-20050127-000001.html

(I don't really agree with the last paragraph)

Another article:

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2006/06/060616135015.htm

The first paragraph in the article is the most informative:

University of Washington psychologists have discovered that adolescent girls who engage in behaviors such as cutting themselves have lower levels of serotonin, a hormone and brain chemical, in their blood. They also have reduced levels in the parasympathetic nervous system of what is called respiratory sinus arrhythmia, a measure of the ebb and flow of heart rate along with breathing.

2.)Do something about it.
Different people have different brain chemistrys. Think of the brain as a recipe. Too much salt and it's inedible.

(Hey, you know, I am not advocating the eating of brains,-zombie much?)
It does not take much to set things off.

Something wrong? Chances are some doctor somewhere has written hundreds of pages on that exact condition.

There are treatments, and there are ways.
go to a neurologist and have a chat.

Yes you should stop. I know people who cut have a hard time not doing it. You could probably find some former cutters in the Mental Health category here on Answers. I've talked to them there before. You can look at my profile & find the questions I've asked here. There's one there about cutting with some good answers from cutters & former cutters.

I used to hurt myself too. Then my boyfriend said he would hurt himself whenever I did. So I stopped, because I hated seeing him hurt on my behalf.

That's what it feels like. You might think that hurting yourself helps you cope, but it doesn't. It hurts the ones you love emotionally and physically. There's really no point in hurting yourself. The scars hardly fade. You will always be reminded of your pain. So stop now, before it gets out of hand.

I am depressed too. It's like a neverending sadness that keeps you from really being. Sometimes I feel like I don't exist in the world, and other times it feels like people are watching my every move. I'm so confused that I want to just give up. But in the end, that won't solve anything.

Confide in your loved ones or at least seek some outside help. From now on, it only gets better.

Good luck.

Cutting is a definite sign that you are depressed. You need to talk to your doctor about this ASAP. You don't need to live with this depression and hurting yourself as you have. Go and get help. Your doc will prescribe an anti-depressant and you need to talk to a therapist to deal with the cause of the depression, if it's not a chemical imbalance.

Dear one, God has a plan for your life and I will pray that you seek out a mentor or spiritual person to help you. Your not alone ... The prayer of St. Francis says it best

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
riest or pastor to help you through this.

Please find another way to express yourself.
Art , Music, write a story, a poem a song
Make a video

So your thoughts put on paper may scare a few people, but hey its better than cutting yourself.
creating something to express those dark feelings may help you..

Find someone to talk to, a friend they don't have to understand just listen
