ok, my brother installed windows on my computer, probably from a non-certified cd or something. i tried updating my "windows media player" to version 11. at which point it asks me to validate my copy of windows, which i can't do, because its not genuine. so now when i try playing .wmv files in any application (WinAmp, WMP, or DiVX) it tells me to validate my copy once again. is there some player out there ( for .wmv files) that i can use without it asking me to validate. or rather, is there a way i can validate this copy of windows. please, any thing will help :)

Asking for help with a stolen copy of Windows is like asking for help with a stolen car.

The computer NERDS might help, but us computer GEEKS know that what you are asking for violates the law.

Buy a copy of Windows XP and just use the key. Make sure if you're running Home you buy a Home key, Pro a Pro Key or a Media Center with a Media Center Key.

Or, If your school lets say runs Pro, and you have a Pro, you write down a key from the side of the computer, then use it to activate yours. But Im not gonna tell you how I figured that one out. *Shifty Eyes* lol.

I think .WMV is something you need to have rights to, which you need a genuine copy of Windows to use. Same with .WMA

First, as a college kid, you can get a very very good discount on legitimate software.
If I remember correctly XP pro for education is 20.00.

So why put yourself through heck. Get with your schools bookstore or IT department and get a legal copy!

try using morpheus or p2p program to get the virsion you want
that dont ask for validation.
but i would not worry about media player higher than 9 or 10
that is all i use.
ive used bodge copy xp for years and allways found ways to get updates without going to microsoft.
it sounds like this copy you have is no good or there is a setting that you have to change so that it dosent check to see
if you have a legal copy.
