Let's say it is not o.k. Doesn't your mind tell you that there's something wrong with that. Wouldn't it violate christian principles to arbitrarily eliminate a whole class of people as potential friends? So, in fact, not only is it o.k.: It is important for Christians and atheist to reach out to each other in tolerance and understanding. Otherwise you end up with civil wars such as the current one in Iraq.

If you go by the Bible, no. It even says to kill your son and brother if they worship another God. And for those who say the Old Testament no longer applies, count the number of times your preacher quotes the Old Testament versus Jesus next time you're in church.

"If anyone secretly entices you--even if it is your brother, your father's son or your mother's son, or your own son or daughter, or the wife you embrace, or your most intimate friend-- saying, "Let us go worship other gods" you must not yield to or heed any such persons. Show them no pity or compassion and do not shield them. But you shall surely KILL them; your own hand shall be first against them to execute them, and then the hand of all the people. Stone them to death for trying to turn you away from the Lord your God." (Deut 13:6-10)

I personally think its okay. Just try not to bring up conversations that deal with religion. It'd be like having friends with anyone else in other religions. You both would believe in different gods... but only in this case the fiend just doesn't believe in a god

Christians can be friends with atheists. When the bible says "yoked" it is referring to marriage.

Since most christians claim to try to be living a life based on the stories about Jesus, and he hung around with whores and weirdos, I think he would be appalled by the attitudes of condemnation and judgment most of his "followers" place upon others who don't believe exactly as they do.

If a Christian decided to only be friends with other Christians, then how would they be able to share their religion with other people? Besides, you shouldn't dump someone as a friend simply because they don't share your beliefs.

I have several atheist friends, many agnostics, a couple of pagans, and two Wiccans. We get along just fine and can hold a very enjoyable discussion on what we believe without name-calling and nastiness. We respect each other's belief systems.

It's very refreshing, I can tell you that.
