This is all up to you. You are the one not getting good grades. The homeschool work will be harder and you will have to work harder to get it done, but you will learn more. Your description of the depressing clutches of homeschool would tell me that it might not be a bad idea to homeschool for a year. The fact is, the learning is up to you. You can choose to do the work in public school, or homeschool. But it is your work.

The thing with homeschooling is if the reason you are getting bad grades is because you are having trouble with something you can go back and refresh that subject at the grade level you need too. It is learning what you need or want NOT what You have too!!! I know there are things you have too but alot of Public school is unnecessary and not relevant to everyone. Or alot of time is spent in going back and forth and just wasting time till school is out. If you homeschool it takes less time to learn ALOT more.

If you truly see it as "the depressing clutches of public school", then definitely homeschool. Make sure you are willing to step up to the plate and learn, though!

First of all, homeschoolers do get socialization!
Secondly, if you are motivated, homeschooling can be a wonderful thing. You would need a schedule no matter what.
Do you think you could do well homeschooling? If your grades are bad because you don't like doing homework, homeschooling won't spare you homework. If your grades are bad because you can't keep up with class or the class goes too slow for you, homeschooling would be good for you.
If you decide to homeschool, I would recommend going through the American School of Correpondence. They are accredited. I loved them.

I AM HOMESCHOOLED AND WOULD TELL YOU TO DO IT BECAUSE I WAS THE SAME AS YOU ARE I HATED SCHOOL. WHEN YOU GO INTO HOMESCHOOLING YOU HAVE TO BE INDEPENDENT AND DO YOUR WORK. IF YOU DO ALL YOUR WORK AND PUT A LIL EFFORT IN IT YOU WILL GET GOOD GRADES. I WAS GETTING LIKE ALL C'S IN PUBLIC SCHOOL AND NOW I'M GETTING ALL A'S SO GO FOR IT IT'S MUCH EASIER TOO IN MY OPINION

HomeSchool offers many great opportunities.
You may keep your friends, participate in after school events.

Join activities with your local library.
Make new friends at homeschool co-ops.
Make up your own schedule.
You can choose hours or days you want to school.

Currently we divide lessons over 7 days.
Then we can take vacations and go play hard when we choose.

You can learn alot more by being seperate from peers while studying.

However the true highschool experience would be best in a building, because many now have labs available as well as offer college courses.

Also the high school counselor can assist you in making a plan for what career goal you would like to pursue.
They can make it easier to locate college scholarships and resources as well.

Good luck.

First of all it is NOT true that you can't learn social skills from homeschooling! Let's see being grouped with only children your age for 12years is social skills how? Oh that's right that's SOCIALISM! my bad....

Puhleeze.... if you need to school at home then you need to be obedient to mom as she is looking out for your best interest! It's not easy but you can do it! Get involved in your own schooling... what interests do you want to pursue that can cover the subjects you need? Seriously!

Friends who can tutor? 4-H, Boys & Girls club, Church activites to join (all social skills), a local homeschool group?

Find a curriculum you like and start stepping up! Tell Mom to try http://www.rainbowresource.com for a huge catalog with good synopsises of curriculum.

and don't listen to those who say you can't homeschool through high school! Most homeschoolers score higher on SAT's & ACT's then ps counterparts. It just takes organization, creativity & ingenuity! (http://www.homeschooloasis.com has great info on high school)

Best wishes.

What makes you think you'll be happy being at home with mom all day long? Would you miss having lunch with friends talking about the latest video games or sporting events. Have you gotten involved with sports or some club like student council or chess club. If you got involved with something you would feel less likely to say school is depressing.

I was homeschooled and got good grades. Try talking to your counseler or outside source. If not, homeschool. There are support groups, graduations, proms, etc... And you can socialize with others.

The big question -- is your mom qualified to teach you the kind of courses you need? You did not state your grade, so I can't comment. Most adults can handle teaching their kids up through middle school. but the ones who can deal with high school level courses are in the minority.

Also, why are you getting horrible grades? Are you not working on your school work? Are in you classes that are too high a level for your ability?
