It is about a man that loved God enough to suffer until God was ready to bless him. God wanted to prove to the devil that he had someone that loved him so much that he would not sin against him. The devil thought Job loved God because of what God had blessed him with (material things). He told God that if he take away those things, Job would not love him. So God allowed the devil to test Job for God's own glory. But Job loved God so much it didn't matter what the devil tried to do to get him to curse God or hate God. He loved God no matter what. And that is what God wants from all of us. To love him unconditionally like he loves us. Job told his wife she was speaking like a foolish woman because she wanted him to curse God for what he was going through. But Job just wanted to please God. God knew he did and that is why he allowed the devil to try him to let the devil know you might have some that serve you but you ain't got this one! Forgive my language, I do know proper English. After his test was over God blessed him even more than before because he passed his test with flying colors.

The book of Job shows me that Satan is free to do as he will; but only with God's consent.
That's right....as powerful as this prince of lies is, he cannot wreak his misery upon this world without God's consent. There will be a time when this devil that others follow will be chained, and punished forever. But not right now, right now there is work for him to do and he is not wasting any time about it.
In the book of Job there are so many nuances that you could spend a year studying this book and come away with fifty-two new lessons, after you have already studied it for a year.
One surprising thing about Job to me was when God spoke to Job at one point around the fortieth chapter and God spoke of dinosaurs!
There is too much to explain about that last sentence; but when you study what was said, and what actions were taken, in that period of history you can't help but come away with a little more knowledge of God.
What the book of Job shows me as well is that God can give blessings beyond measure, and the faithful even when they fall are forgiven.
Job teaches us patience, in his trials and pains he does question God but he also rebukes the self righteous friends he has to contend with.
My comprehension of this book is that it is an inexhaustible source of knowledge.

1. By man's thinking; Job may be old testament; but not by God's.
Reminder; Testament is an older term for what we today call a will in the USA . The old will "testament' was the law of Moses.
2. God gives; and even Satan gets permission from God to 'take away' things from man.

Job was a just man that God put a hedge around. But Job left an opening for Satan to step in and cause trouble. You'll read where it says, "...the thing I feared most has come upon me." Job opened the door and Satan stepped right in. I think this is the real message of this book.
Under the new covenant it is still the same but now we have the authority to fight back with confidence.

I love this story of Job. It shows how much he loved and
feared God at the same time. Satan wanted to prove that
Job would stray away from God if he make his life a
living hell. So God gave him permission to do his bad
deeds towards Job, as long as the devil didnt touch him.
So the devil went down to do his bad deeds towards
Job one rite after the other. Job never once said anything
wrong about God and provening the Devil wrong. God at
the end made Job very prosperous. I think alot of people
these days, especially towards Christians even myself
need to read this story and learn that God is always with
us even when we are going through really hard times and
wants to see how much faith we have in him in those times.

This is an absolute wonderful book. It assists us in recognizing one of the reasons we suffer so badly right now.
Basically, at the beginning, Satan tells God that Job (and by extension all humans) only worships God because of what Job can get out of it. And God bribes Job (and by extension all humans) to worship him.
Satan insists that given permission and opportunity, he can turn away Job (and by extension all humans) from worshiping God.
The Book of Job is about endurance. Most people say "the patience of Job." But Job was not patient. Job endured. And proved Satan wrong.
The issues raised by Satan are still before us today. But most people do not know that.

It is included in the wisdom literature portion of the Bible because it's a story with a moral to it. The bulk of the book is a conversation between a few friends about why one of them, by all accounts an upstanding moral person, has experienced so much tribulation so suddenly. It's ancient wisdom literature dealing with how people cope with suffering, so its basics are still applicable today.

a guy named Job was the holiest man on Earth at the time. God came and said to Satan "see how good he is?". Satan challenged God and said "well yeah, but he'll curse you if you stop blessing him". God said "what? let's see. Satan, you're free to test him. do whatever you like to his life, but you can't touch him". Satan said "fine then!" and tried.
Satan killed Job's kids, robbed him of his riches, and sent Job into a state of torment. Job's peers weren't too supportive either: his friends said to curse God and just die, his wife said to curse God. Job mourned.
Job gave his famous "the Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away" line, and he was later rebuked by his friend Elihu under the influence of God's Spirit. Then God went on to rebuke Job in person, basically tellin' him "I'm in command. I am omni.... you are my faithful servant, but...." and then Job answered "yeah, I'm sorry God, I know you can do all that, and I shouldn't question you or try to tell you how you do things. I've done wrong [the "Lord taketh" statement I figure] and I repent", and then God was pleased, Satan was upset, and Job was restored 100 times over (he even saw his great great grand kids!). Job's kids went to Paridise.
woo that was long. but basically we learn lessons about how to bear hardships, that God will allow us to be tested to strengthen our faith, that no person (except Christ) is earthly perfect, and that faith and obedience pay off.

The rain falls on the just and unjust. Just because we are Christians doesn't mean bad things wont happen to us. Job was a Godly man and yet he had terrible things happen to him. Yes God allowed it, All things work together for the greater good to those who love Him
