Not everything has to be verbally said. Just start talking about animals and she if she grows bored or interested; that will provide you with an answer.

Ask her, her favorite animal. Or if she has any? Or tell her u wanna **** her like an animal, ok im just kidding, but haha, just ask her why do u have to find a smooth way? The zoo is fun, most girls would go for that.

start building up a topic about animals..like...whats ur favourite animal..and when she says ex. like.. a dog, then say, oh so do u like animals? and start talking about the animals at the zoo and if she likes to see the animals at the zoo then ask her to go.. its not that hard...

I think one of the best ways is to somehow bring animals into the subject. Talk about pets that you have, see if she likes any particular animals. Then, you'll know if she likes animals or not.
