there are so many people that claim themself as an imam particularly in Indonesia. Does this dubious imam has a strong knowledge in theology and islam. For example imam samudera from Indonesia is a terrorist, so how did he became an imam

There is no hierarchical clerical authority in Islam, no priests or ministers. Prayers are led by any learned person who knows the Qur'an and is chosen by the congregation. He (or she, if the congregation is all women) is called the imam.

In Islam there's nothing called Imam it's only a tittle like Mister in English, there's no one between man and God (ALLAH) and all those Imams only try to explain the religion Islam to people they got no power on followers at all
