Get a muzzle and maybe keep the area clean before he starts his non-sense.

Hello,
I had the same problem with my second puppy and I know how gross this can be! I was not use to this as my first puppy from the same breeder did not eat her own feces. Anyway, I did end up taking her to the Vet and she explained to me that some puppies do this because their intestinal flora has not been met. (Check this out on the net) She gave me some pills to give her and I'm sorry but I don't remember what they were called as this was 4 years ago. She also mentioned that sometimes the pills will not work and the puppy just has to grow out of it. The vet also suggested that I sprinkle hot sauce or a hot spice on her feces before she has a chance to eat it. This certainly would stop her from continuing if I was able to get to it before my puppy did. The pills took a few weeks to work and finally she stopped eating hers AND her sisters feces. I hope this information helps with your puppy :)

Dogs have a very short digestive system that allows much of the food to pass through undigested. It's that undigested food that your puppy smells and wants.
You may never get him to stop eating it and that of other dogs, when he can get it. If you are with him, try having him on a leash and as soon as he goes to get it, tell him 'no' in a sharp tone and give the leash a tug. Then pick it up immediately and dispose of it appropriately. I've had limited success with this method on one of my own dogs and can now tell him 'no' from a distance and he will walk away, most of the time.
It's just like when they take treats from the cat's litter box. The only way to make sure that it doesn't happen is to get it out of the way

There is something called "Forbid" it is sold at pet stores. It is either added to your pet's food or there are tablets that are given as treats. It causes the feces to become unpalatable to the dog.

Unless you take him for walks supervised, you can't stop this problem. The Vet has a medicinal powder or pill form you add to his food that will not flavor the food itself; however his poop will no longer be tasty to him. Good Luck!

You don't give too much info but here goes:
1. If he is left crated or tied up, and he has no choice but to do that, he does not want to be in his own mess, so he eats it to get rid of it. (pick up his poop and keep his area clean)
2. Walk him and let him do his business away from where he lives. (don't forget to pooper scooper)
3. Don't forget to check with his vet, the next time you take him, maybe there is something missing from his diet that is causing it.
Good luck.

its all natural. you can let him eat his feces ( and get a little healthier) or clean up his feces after he's gone to the bathroom.
