I did a avg anti virus scan and this pop up:
windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe change
Microsoft did a update on my Windows XP the day before. Any advise please.

That update does replace ntoskrnl.exe. I'm not sure why you couldn't find
any info about it. Just go to the MS knowledge base, search on that KB
article and read it. It lists what files are changed.

I found a website that explains system32.exe pop-ups. It could be malware that spreads by emails, or it could be a trojan virus. Anyway, not to panic. When the AVG scan showed this scan result, what was the risk assessment ? I presume you got the system to get rid of it by putting it in the vault. I will give you the link that will tell you about system32.exe files. Any file ending in .exe is trouble :

I would advise doing another virus scan & spyware scan to see what comes up. Get rid of it , whatever it is. You will see in this link that they suggest doing a system restore & they even tell you how. Good luck !

Your XP update contained that file and AVG was probably telling you the file was changed.

you definition are updated on avg correct?
unistall avg and reinstall
and then run the scan
