As I pulled into the driveway, he grabs the stuffed bear in his mouth and stands in front of the gate waving his tail. Why is that?

Most dogs do this if they are of the retriever breed, some do it because they are so excited that they just have to hold on to something.
Both my Goldens go running for either a ball or a toy of some sort to greet me at the door with. Their tails are waggin a mile a minute. It just their way of saying I'm really glad to see you, Welcome home!

The reason for this is that he notices you are coming, and wants to get your attention and you to notice him. By grabbing the toy stuffed bear, he wants you to play with him, try to get it away from him, or do anything that diverts you from whatever else you would do to spend time with him.

Displacement activity that enhances itself for the reason which you talk to the canines which you stumble on it lovable. My cutting-edge canines does this too, thowing her squeaker toys up into the air whilst a walk is forthcoming. My final one knew a thank you to press each and every button to be certain a homecoming could be repeated. carry me toys, great waggy tail, roll the different way up and so on. some human beings are confident there's a telepathic hyperlink.

Obviously, the bear is his favorite toy (or one of his favorites). He is happy to see you and wants you to notice him. Greet him, pat him, play with him if you have a few minutes. He has been missing you all day and he is welcoming you home.

This is natural for all dogs. Whenever they see someone they like they grab the closest thing to them and get very excited!

He misses you and wants to play with you. You are probably very tired when you get home, but taking 5-10 minutes everyday for playtime with your dog will help.

I am deffinately thinking he is so excited for you to get home that he grabs his toy so he can play with you. I think its a cute thing that dogs do.

Perhaps he wants you to play tug of war or throw the bear for him? Or maybe the bear is a gift for you?
