If you belong to a gym, they probably have a piece of equipment called "The Captains Chair". You hang with your weight supported by your forearms, and you crunch your legs up to your chest.
This is also very effective hanging from a bar. Just doing 25 of these must be like the equivalent of 100 regular situps. It really focuses on the bottom part of your abs, which a lot of exercises can't help too much.
Just make sure when you do this exercise that you don't swing your legs backwards to get momentum. You should pull your legs up with your back firmly against the back rest, and lower your legs so they are hanging straight down, or even a little in front of your body.
Remember, don't swing your legs, and keep your back against the back rest, to avoid irritating your back.
Another great exercise is to lay on your back on a mat, legs straight forward, and hold one of those large exercise balls that people use for abs between your feet. Raise your feet (along with the ball) straight up, and slowly let it down. Don't rest at the bottom. You will really feel your abs. This exercise probably focuses 90% or more of your effort directly on your abs.
It will probably be better for your back if you place your hands under your lower back while laying on the mat. Do at least 20 repetitions at a time..... slow and steady, no cheating by using momentum!

Eat a healthy diet composed of lots of fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean proteins. Eat smaller meals. Exercise for 30-60 minutes every day. Do not drink juice or alcohol. Walk the stairs instead of taking the elevator. Park farther away from stores. Try to find activities you enjoy as exercise. Try different things until you settle into a routine. Routines are just that..routine and boring. That means you are less likely to stick with any training regimen for an extended period of time. The most important aspect to any fitness goal is not quitting. Keep training and in time you'll see results. Have fun.

A sport that moves all of the body parts like running, basketball, or volleyball is most effective. Sit ups take for ever because it doesnt burn many calories.

it's almost impossible.
doing crunches might help...but the thing is, you have to get off that layer of abdominal fat you have...that's the first thing you need to do to even prove the crunches effective.
take dance classes. it helps! i noe for sure because i quit and then after a few weeks of not dancing i noticed my stomach wasn't as flat as it used to be....
