Considering rock to be rather vulgar (in a good way) and tasteless(in a good way) as well as a champion of the less lovable more chaotic half of humanity, is Christian Rock an oxymoron?
I'd say no.

No, rock is a style of music its not about the lyrics. The lyrics are what makes a song Christian or not. Instrumentally, many Christian rock songs (the best ones anyway) sound much like mainstream rock. It just blows peoples minds sometimes when they hear music like that with christian lyrics. It's different, and thats why they don't like it. I love christian rock if it really sounds like rock music. There are christian artists that have more of a pop sound, and I tend to not like those as much. The only thing that makes a song christian or vulgar is the lyrics. You couldn't just play an instrumental and say "oh that's a christian song" without hearing the lyrics.

I would say yes. In the old testament God asked one of the prophets if something that is holy touches something that is unholy does the holy make the unholy clean or does the unholy make the holy unclean. The answer was that when you mix something clean with something unclean the unclean overpowers the clean. And the same principle is true in the natural realm. If you throw a rotten apple into a basket of good apples the one rotten apple will make the good apples rotten. When we mix the music of the world with the truth of God's word the corruption of the music destroys the message of the gospel. Basically you are saying I can be a friend of the world and still be a friend of God. That is not true according to James.

Remember Jesus did not come for the perfect people of his generation. He hung around the rejects, the sick, the hated, the scorned. If rock music is for, as you say, the vulgar, the tastleless, the less lovable, then I guess that Jesus would not have any problem hanging around those people.
Thanks for helping us all to see that Jesus Rocks !

Think about it its the words that make it christian not the music and that type of music isn't just for the grundgy biker dude on here worshiping the devil. Whether the rockin' out dude on stage playing the guitar is saying praise the devil or praise God... he is still rockin' out. I would say rap is more for the devil cause its like porn for the ears!

Yes, and coincidentally morons who use oxy 10....listen to the crap.
Why do they try so hard to make it sound like real music? I guess they have to give their desperate youth some options in their confined and otherwise oppressive environment,, they might lose followers if they don't conform to popular culture!! oh my!
