Bound's hubby here:

First off, if you are shooting skeet (24" barrel) and trap (30" barrel) just your barrel choices have put you out of your price range. The traditional semi-auto used in trap or skeet would be Remington Model 1100. However, trap guns and skeet guns tend to have not only different barrel lengths, but they also tend to have different stock dimensions. Trap guns tend to have high-comb stocks, while skeet guns have low-comb stocks. You might be best served getting a field grade Remington 1100 that is used with one or the other barrel and purchasing the other barrel when you have the cash. For trap, get a lace on or slip on cheek pad/foam.

Good luck.

I suggest sticking with the Remington 870 Express pump. You can get one at Wal-Mart for $280.

H&R also makes some cheaper guns. Their single shot sells under the name New Englad Firearms. They also have a semi-auto which you can probably get in that price range. The single shot is a fine gun, but I am not sure about the semi auto. Here a link http://www.hr1871.com/Firearms/Shotguns/excell.aspx

To stay within your budget you will probably have to check the newspapers on a daily basis, and whatever other periodicals you can get your hands on. At that price a used gun will probably have to be adequate, to get the features you need for repetitive shooting. Get someone that knows how to judge the condition of the gun and what it will need to be sufficient for your purpose, or learn to do it yourself. You may be able to get the seller to take it to a gunsmith of your choice for and appraisal. Good luck, I hope you go far in the competition.

You need to raise your spending limit if you want a quality autoloader. I would hunt gun shows and pawn shops for a used Browning A-5 or something similar.
