From my travel encounters around Australia:
1. Undisputably the British, heaps of them
2. German
3. Scandinavians (Dannish, Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish)
4. French and Swiss
5. Dutch
6. Japanese and Koreans
7. Canadians
8. Some from the States, but pale in comparison to other European backpackers.
Of course there are other visitors from other countries like China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, INdonesia, etc but not many of them do backpacking-style travel, although they constitute a big chunk of tourists to Australia. ANd lately I have seen more and more coming from CEntral and South America backpackers.
