I'd say that most Westerners don't have a firm concept of the Hindu understanding of Karma. Karma is what you accumulate throughout a lifetime, and it affects the next life, not this one. It helps in justifying why a bad person has such a great life, which happens much more often than it should sadly. If you believe in Karma, you have to accept the fact that the person will be punished/rewarded in the next life, so the person who's nice to everyone but can't catch a break will be set up nicely in the next life, while the wretch with the penthouse will be lower next time around.

Well, Karma really has nothing to do with the "Christian Bible", I'm not sure were these folks above me got that idea. But yes I do believe in Karma, in Wicca it is close to the "Three Fold Law", As a Wiccan, I do not follow the Three Fold Law, but I follow a rule called "The Law Of Return", basically Karma, ~What ever you do will come back to you. If you do good, good will come back to you, if you do bad...watch out!
Edit: It seems some of the above folks actually decided to look up the word "Karma" and change their answers! Funny stuff!

I second with Swamp thing. The way I was raised in American as an American (especially in my teen years) you would never think I should be married; well I am; meaning that the karma that followed me in life should by rights been bad.
I just made up my mind to be the best person I can be.

Actually KARMA comes from the Buddhists. If good things are done, good things come back. Also a Hindu belief. And a Christian belief but it is not stated exactly that way. Still means the same, though.

No i dont believe in Karma. I looked up Karma in the dictionary:
Hindu and Buddist doctrine that the morality of a man's actions determines the status of his future incarnations.: That is what i got from the dictionary. Karma is totally against God. So NO DEFINITELY i do NOT BELIEVE IN KARMA. No one should!

I believe that Karma is what God uses to decide that fates of human soles, whether they go to hell or heaven. We still get good and bad karma, but I dont believe its a debt we have to comnpletely pay off, and that we get reincarnated
