I use an online picture service whereby you upload the photos and they then print them on photo paper and deliver them to your door. I find the quality of the print is better than printing on a photo printer and glossy photo printer paper at home with crisper definition and colour. It also works out cheaper as although I pay for each photo it is merely a matter of pennies (cents) and costs less than purchasing toner cartridges.

I think if your selling your photos that its the quality of the picture you want most for printing it. Also if your selling it, you would include the basic idea of how much it would cost to print it. Wether that print be made at home or at a professional place.

I would say the same if its for you personally as well. If its for your home photo album youll have to ask your self is it worth 19 cent a copy or the ink it would take to buy at home for your printer. Which is the best quality. But it really does depend on what equiptment you have calling your name at home.

Whats your gut telling you. ;)

As for which is better in terms of quality, I think the answer is quite obvious, if you want your photos to be printed correctly do you think some guy who is printing several thousands of photos a day is willing or able to spend the neccassary time to print your image correctly.
With regards to quantity, lets say you have several hundred photos to print and you are not so concerned about the quality of the prints, then by all means have your photos professionally processed.

It depends.

If you are skilled at color management and have a decent printer and the money for paper and ink, home is fine. If you don't have one or all of the fore mentioned, then better to find either a good lab (they DO exist) or send to on-line printers like MPix or SmugMug. Most lab prints are more archival than most home prints, that would be a consideration as well.

I am a lab manager. All my film I print at the lab, and digital is about half lab and half home.

uh. i would choose at a photo shop.
though a bit more expensive, when you print at home you'd need to find all the right materials and such, which usually cost a bit more. and plus, if you're not that good with the glossy photo picture (like me), then the photo shop is the way to go!

Depends how sophisticated your printing equipment is at home. Not a lot of people have the proper equipment so in their case a photo shop is better.

The last printer I had, I had like a little party.
Everybody got to pick a weapon, or tool.
Anything made of metal that was capable
of destruction. We all wore protective
goggles.

Printers are a pain in the proverbial asp,
ask anyone they will usually say that.

If you want just family pictures and you don't care about color quality then do it at home. But it's better to get them done at a shop because they will know more about color correcting your images than you do.

if you have professional equipment, your photos will look as good as in a photo shop.. in terms of quality!

but if you are speaking economically, at home would save much more money
