Today is my daughter's birthday. We are having her birthday party tomorrow, at a pizza resturant, just having family there.

Where we are having the party has a buffet, and my family was told that if they want to eat lunch, they have to pay for their own food, we just can't afford to pay for everyone's meals. We are just having the party there and bringing the cake.

Well my sister in law, said that she's not sure that her and my niece and my brother can make it if my wife and I are not paying for everyone's meals.

We went to this resturant a while back as a family and my wife and I payed for everyone. This woman if we were not coming to my nieces birthday party would be complaining that we don't care about our niece at all.

It just gets really upsetting, we just want our daughter to have a good birthday party and she has to pull her selfish crap.

Just curious s to what you all think.

I can't afford to pay for everyone's meals, and they said that they can't afford to pay for thier meals either.

You made it very clear that you would not pick up the tab for this meal. It was rude for her to expect anything else. It is their decision to attend or not. Do not allow her to make you feel guilty that they didn't come to the party. It was their choice.

I would have the party and let everyone pay for their own and don't worry about who shows up and who doesn't. Your daughter will appreciate the fact that you are giving her a party. I know what it's like not to be able to afford to do certain things. Stick to your guns. You're doing the right thing and have fun!

If you invite people to a restaurant for a party, you are responsible for paying the bill. That's just common etiquette.

If you can't afford to pay for everyone, perhaps you should have thought of having pizza delivered to your home and had the party there.

Ok obviously NO one can afford this so why are you having the party there? There are other places you can have it. If you want her to have a good party, set your own ego aside and have a smaller party at home. Its not how many that come that counts but the quality.

I think that we have forgotten that kids parties are for KIDS!! I think you should invite your friends and have a great time. Who ever is too cheap to pay or feels that you are being cheap doesnt have to be there to spoil your fun. Life is expensive enough as it is. Have a great party!!

Depends - is she saying that out of selfishness, or is she saying that because they really can't afford it? That's a rather important distinction.

don't ruin your day over someone who is petty and ignorant.

your daughter will certainly appreciate YOUR presence, and that is what is important... it wont' leave any long-term scars if your (greedy) sister-in-law doesn't show up! with any luck, she will stay home!

happy birthday to your daughter!
