"I don't fear death because I know I am going to heaven" - that's exactly why conservative Christians fear the conservative followers of Islam - because Islam teaches them not to fear death because the afterlife will be wonderful for them if they give their lives in the name of destroying the infidels. But... if you really don't fear death, then why not just let the Islamic terrorists blow you up? Why do you constantly complain about them and prophesize to the rest of us that Islam will bring death to us all? Don't you want to be blown up so that you can go to heaven and be with God asap?

The modern gods are entertainment. The fear of death has caused us to be crazed about staying busy, keeping our minds cluttered. Whether it's cell phones, internet, cable television, video games, movies, sports or music, we are all hearing or watching something. People fear the down time, when all is quiet, and we are left just with our thoughts, hopes and fears.

In celtic society, there was no fear of death.. it was simply a pathway to the Otherworld and taking another place on the wheel. It's one of the things that made both the men and the women fierce warriors.

Some of these responders talk big until the doctor tells you, that you have cancer or need a new liver and you have to face death fair and square in the face
And I wonder how many who did not believe in God were calling on Him in the 9/11 planes that were heading towards the buildings. (no disrespect here)
You are here today and gone tomorrow.
Best not to play around with this

A fear of Life is more likely... but Death was a major factor, too. It was important to keep the living, especially those in power, subdued as far as possible, so abuse of power would be minimized ("those in power" is meant to be relative, from the very top to the lowest minion in charge of the truly powerless).

as a Muslim i am taught that death is not something to fear. it is a necessary part of life. think how crowded the earth would be if every creature was immortal.
