Technically, yes they go to jail. Juvenile Detention Centers are run pretty much like normal jails, except the kids still get taught academics and they have group therapy sessions. Boys and girls are kept in separate jail areas and are not allowed to intermingle. They have issued clothing to wear, and get told what, when, and how to do things.
I have personally taken children to the detention center that have been 11 years old. Trust me, you don't want to know why.
It does depend on the severity of the crimes they commit as to whether they are released to their parents or other relatives, or whether they are taken to the juvenile detention center.

This depends on your state and the age of the child. In north Carolina you ar considered to be an adult in the eyes of the courts at the age of 16. Which is not unusual for most states. But children under that age can still go to jail. But only facilities that hold other juveniles. While they are not called prisons, they usually have on campus schools and are not allowed to leave for any reason other than court which they have often to evaluate they circumstances

Not enough of them go to jail. In my day, if you did something wrong you went to a youth center (a jail for bad kids). Now kids can almost get away with murder before they send them to jail.

In my own opinion, It depends if the kid really did the crime just because somebody pushes him to do it, then the one pushing him will be the one going to jail. On the other hand, If the kid really did the crime himself, then he will be judge if he will be put to jail or not depending on his age and what kind of crime....

Depending on the crime but I know a child who was 13 and put in jail. Again, it all depends on the crime they committed.
