Also the Baptist influence of this teaching in the South is shared by evangelicals, fundamentalists, 'born agains'...

How did the people meantioned as getting intoxicated in the bible get that way?
If it was "unfermented" bright ones, it wouldn't be called WINE.

and Jesus materialized the BEST wine....what is that supposed to mean?

Some of us southerners were born right the first time and know better than to believe anything the 'born agains' say.

A lot of people think that the Bible condones drinking of alcohol because it talks about wine. They say, “Didn’t Jesus make wine for a wedding?”

What many people don’t know is that the word “wine” in the Bible is a generic term. The context (words before and after the word wine) in each case indicates whether it was fermented or not. The Bible does not use the word “grape juice”, but always the word “wine” which can be either fermented or unfermented depending on the context.

In, Isaiah 16:10b, grape juice is called “wine” (yayin) when it is still in the press, saying, "No treaders will tread out wine in the presses" where it clearly cannot be fermented yet.

Now, “Did Jesus make alcohol for the wedding in Cana? We find the story in, John 2:1-11, in the New Testament.
The person in charge of the wedding, after he had tasted the wine Jesus had just made, commented…”you have kept the good wine until now.” Good wine was fresh grape juice, the fermented grape juice was considered inferior.

Another way we know that this was not an alcoholic drink is because Jesus always obeyed the Father. In, Proverbs 23:31 and 32 it commands, “Do not look on the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it swirls around smoothly; at the last it bites like a serpent, and stings like a viper.” No, Jesus did NOT make a fermented wine at this wedding, but rather He gave a wedding gift of at least 120 gallons of fresh unfermented grape juice.
In another place in the Bible, Deuteronomy 32:33, it says fermented wine is poison. Alcohol is a toxic mind-altering drug. The Bible says wine is a mocker, intoxicating drink arouses fights, whoever is led astray by it is not wise! Proverbs 20:1

Once again GOD's word does not lie and the bible has many examples of what to do what not to do and what was done.
Of course fermented wine existed but Jesus or GOD do not condon to it.
Because we live in this day people tend to think it was fermented wine therefore giving them a reason to take it and run with it and drink.. But it is NOT so!

Are they taught that? If so, it is silly. Fermented drinks were actually safer back then- pasteurization was a long way away, and fermenting was the best way to eliminate illness-causing microbes. Even water might contain such microbes. Wine is wine, and that is what the Bible means by wine- they aren't talking grape juice. Yes, Jesus made wine out of water. The party would have fallen flat if He hadn't.

If the wine was unfermented why did people accuse Jesus of being drunk?

1. they had a low water supply in the desert so anyone saying it was diluted, is DELUDED

2. Dr welch made the first grape juice in the 1800s.

they are special alright.....just kidding, yeah it makes no sense they usually say it was grape juice. so from one of the best examples of why this is laughable

the wedding feast at cana, jesus' first miracle. the best wine was put out first and then the cheaper wine was put out as the guests would not know the difference, because they were drunk or in the process..........why put out expensive grape juice and then the cheaper when no one could tell the difference!!!? your sober after drinking your fill of grape juice you want some more, but wait this one isn't as good as the first grape juice i can clearly tell the difference.......yeah right.

Wine is wine...Jesus knew they needed it and He gave it to them...They are Hysterical for real, but the fact is that Jesus has the power to help anyone who truly believes in Him. Believing is difficult...but try it...you will find it mostly rewarding and spiritually illuminating...

Intelligent ones know that it was fermented. After all, scripture records how people became drunk on it. Personally, I do not find any sripture that forbids drinking of alcoholic beverages. I do find scripture that says we ought to be careful and not drink so much that we no longer control our thoughts and actions. As an ordained Baptist minister, I do not drink alcoholic beverages of any kind simply because I do not want to send anyone a mixed message and I do not want anyone to use that as an excuse not to listen to my testimony.

It is quite amusing! Why some folks fear alcohol as they do is probably considered a 'phobia' by shrinks... heard that 'grape-ade' terminology all the years I was growing up. what a crock, shameful that ministers hated the thought of drink so much they felt telling a lie was less evil...??

Very dear...we know historically that it was fermented. Wine has been around forever. But, my daughter goes to an American Baptist church and she is not taught that. They are very independent, so that may be just what their preacher or Sunday School teacher thinks. I have not heard that being taught to ANYONE in ANY church I ever went to.
I might be your science teacher.

If it didn't ferment, why would you worry about putting new wine in old bottles.

Biblical literality and dogmatic lies are so amusing until you realize how many people buy into the lies.
