Yeh some cats become obsessed with certain textures and tastes. Is she a burmese by any chance as they seem to be the usual suspects?!?!
We have clients that have cats that are obsessed with sheets, plastic plates, leather (shoes, handbags) power cords.
YOu need to be careful and aviod having these things around as your cat may decided to eat pieces of the plastic and that could cause obstructions in the intestinal tract.
Try spraying a bitter spray (wound guard / bitter apple) on the kitchen rubbish bag to deter the kitty from licking it.

The licking or eating of inappropriate objects is called "pica", and is most common in oriental/pointed breeds of cats. There is some evidence from testing, that such cats are lacking a dietary element. Often they will turn out to be anemic. But in general, it is taken as a sign that all is not right with the cat when they continue such behavior.

As you probably know cats have a very keen sense of smell and I imagine the cat is smelling something in the bag that she likes.... as long as the kitty is not chewing or ripping off part of the garbage bag it probably will be ok.... strange what some cats do.....

cats are as weird and each has its own individual quirks. I had one that loved powdered donuts and mcdonalds fries. another loved green beans from a can. currently we have one that loves to lick photos. must be something in the finishing chemicals. yours may like the smell of plastic.

One of my Ragdolls does that too. As long as she isn't chewing on it I wouldn't worry. She gets the highest quality cat food, so I don't believe it is a lack in that area. Cats just do crazy things sometimes.

One of my cats likes to knaw on certain types of plastic bags.
I think it has something to do with their diet. She also goes outside to eat grass once in a while. If she's not allowed out she will then chew on the plastic.

Maybe the cat likes the feel of that texture. Remember when you were younger and you liked to put different things in your mouth because of the shape and texture? Tongues have nerves too. It might feel good to the kitty.

My cat loves to do this too. It feels good on thier tounge. Mine does it when she's nervous and there is a lot of commotion. It's kind of cute.
