I am just sitting here staring around the room and I just saw "900MHZ" on my home phone. What does that mean?? Is it the dial tone or what?

The term "MEGAHERTZ" refers to the frequency (speed) of the signal that the unit transmits and receives from and to the base unit that you connect to your phone line.
MEGA is Greek for "times 100,000."
Your telephone is set to receive and transmit to the base unit at a speed of 900,000,000 Hertz, which is a standard frequency speed for most commercial and private telephones.

All radio frequencies travel from point to point at the same speed which is approx. the speed of light. 900MHz is just the freq. range your phone is designed to communicate at between the handheld and base unit. Just like AM, FM and TV stations use different frequencies (or channels)...any wireless device also uses a radio freq. range to communicate. Frequencies are determined by how fast electrons cycle from positive to negative..not how fast they travel through space. Look up sine wave to understand. Newer cordless phones use freq. in the 2.1 GHz range. More frequencies are needed to keep everyone from trying to talk on the same freq. or channel.

Ps..it's a little confusing when compared to MHz and GHz on computers which is the theoretical "speed" of the data flow per second through a particular device. In this case it isn't RF but the internal speed at which data bits (or information) can change per second. Computers use pulsed (high-low) DC current which is not the same as the sine wave AC current found in houses or radio waves.

no no thats the frequency range which maximum ur phone can pick
it is immaterial for ur normal house uses it matters while u need to keep ur cordless base unit at some place then ur cordless at some other place

That is an indication of how far you can carry your handset from the base and still talk with a good connection.
