In other words, the biggest eureka!

Mine: I just discovered that the now and the hereafter should be lived together. Life and the hereafter are cause and effect, and if you live the now as if youre being judged by God, then youd live a happier life.

Now your turn.

I learned that the most moral and ethical thing to live by is to get rid of the self-centered desire for reward or fear of judgement. This is very sophomoric and juvenile and it's how I lived my life for the first 20 years of it. Ethics and morals need to come from a deep realization of the nature of suffering and the desire to not induce it in others -- and without any thought of a big daddy watching you and judging you.

Up till some years in the past, i presumed my mothers and dads whilst they mentioned that being gay is a sin or unnatural or despite. yet whilst i replaced into approximately 11, i found out that GLBT's are in basic terms people who're somewhat distinctive. As distinctive as from me as people who do unlike chocolate ice cream. THAT replaced into my best discovery so some distance.

Once I got through law school, I realized that I would never again be sure about anything anymore -- not whether something was right or wrong, or good or bad, or whether God exists, or whether there is any purpose to humankind. I've learned to accept a world of uncertainty.

My biggest discovery came when I finally figured out my parents were lying to me about Santa Claus. I asked myself why they would do such a thing and came to the conclusion that it was to train me to believe the impossible without proof, to have faith. Suddenly I realized my mind was being deliberately manipulated and that almost everything I believed to be true was actually a lie.

I discussed my suspicions with my classmates on the playground at school and everyone agreed that Santa Claus was probably phony and that they went along with Christmas to please their parents and to get the presents. The following day I was called into the Principal's office for a group conference with four parents. One of my playground friends had ratted me out to his Preacher father, who complained that I had "undermined" his son's faith. The first thing my idiot Christian father did was slap me around for "causing trouble." The woman Principal just stood there stupidly but one of the men came to my aid and threatened my father with a serious beating if he didn't stop slapping me around. I was awestruck that anyone would dare to stand up to my sadistic father on my behalf. My teacher then shared an essay of mine with the group. In it, I had proved that Santa Claus couldn't possibly visit all the homes of all the children in the world in 24 hours and I concluded that the purpose of Santa Claus was to train children to believe impossible stories, so they would believe all that stuff about Jesus. The Preacher was "shocked." The brave man called it "brilliant, especially for a nine-year-old." My father back-handed me across my face. The grown-ups argued amongst themselves for some time and I realized my only ally was the brave man, Jimmy's father. After the meeting, my father took me home and beat me severely for "embarrassing" him. After I quit crying, he beat me a second time for "reinforcement."

The next day I went to school and asked Jimmy all about his father. He was a scientist at the Livermore Radiation Laboratory. He was a doctor, but not the medical kind, and he was very, very smart. He'd also told told Jimmy that he thought I might actually be a genius. This filled me with pride and I vowed that I was going to grow up to be a real scientist, a seeker of truth, just like Jimmy's dad. From that day forward I have been steadfastly committed to the pursuit of truth. Jimmy told me his father called himself an atheist and I instantly realized that I was too.

All this went down 51 years ago and my father's been dead for 20 years and not a single day goes by when I don't remember how much I still hate him and all his evil Christian lies!

In general, in the lab or the kitchen, hot glass looks just like cold glass. Always use a pot holder, even on cold glass, it may seem silly but third degree burns are sillier
