I have been doing a full upper body workout. Then I rest for 3 days and do it again. What's wrong with this? Is this not better than doing a "split" workout? I don't think it takes a week for your muscles to recover. Also, I do 4 sets of 1 exercise on each muscle group in this workout. For example, I do 4 sets of chest presses, anf 4 sets of tricep extensions. I do this for every upper body muscle so that I get a full upper body workout in 1 hour. What do you guys think of this workout? Thanks!

So far the answers have been disapointing....anyone else have anything to say. I'm just wondering if I should focus on certain muscle groups and do a "split" routine instead of working out the entire upper body at once. Thanks.

You may not think or feel that it takes a week for muscles to "recover," but keep in mind that muscles build mass not while they are being worked, but while they are resting.

Since everyone's body chemistry is somewhat different, however, what have you got to lose by giving the once-a-week and split-routine a try for a month just to see how it works for you? If you can't handle more weight faster each week, then go back to your other routine.

Well first I'd like to say are you putting in thirty minutes of cardio at the end of your weight training? Thats a must.
Now I dont think there is anything wrong with doing 2 days of upper. I normally do Upper and Lower Twice a week and Abs Three times a week. And I am giving my body three days rest before hitting it up again!
I will recommend you cut your sets back to 3 though. And replace those with CORE excercises. You see---core should go before assissted. And that's what your weight lifting exercises are.
Some core exer. would be: Dolphin Pose, Back Extensions, Push Ups (Any kind) and T-Stands.
You can check out those and other workout routines at my blog at this link!

And I'm not sure if your abs are what you want them to be but try the ab boot camp! Its a great freakin workout!!!!
