My brother-in-law's former girlfriend(who's father owns two McD's in our area) recently had him fired because she claims he made her get an abortion. He had no clue she was even pregnant until after she came back from IL and told him what she had done. Needless to say, he was devistated. Not because he lost his job but because she killed his child and he didn't even know he was a father. The ex girfriends father supported the daughter's decision and agreed to fire him because she "had a reputation to up hold" Do you think we should take steps against this McDonald's or what?

He was an excellent worker: came before time, missed only when he had to, etc. The father says that he's going to give him a bad report and also
HE NEVER KNEW SHE WAS PREGNANT

First of all, how does getting an abortion uphold her reputation? Seems to me that it would just damage it further. As for taking action, it's probably a lost cause. What could you do to make the situation better? If they are "Christians", it should be brought to the attention of their church (providing it is a biblical church). If they are not, well, what more can you expect of the godless.

1. You may want to ask this in the law and ethics area, rather than religion.
2. Considering how easy it is to fire a person at a fast food job, I am not sure you'd be able to prove much. All they need is adequate documentation that the worker did not meet the store's needs. The stuff about the abortion would be considered a smokescreen by the court probably.
3. If you win the suit, all McDs has to do is give you the job back. Would you really want to go back to work there? Cash settlement is unlikely. Even if he got the job back, they can fire him again as soon as they build up a better case against him.
4. This is a really good example of why dating co-workers, even in this kind of job is a bad idea. It is also a good case against nepotism and dating the bosses daughter.

If I was him I would be tempted to start legal action over the firing.
I am not a pro lifer and he is likely better off without being tied to her, child or not.
Hopefully he finds someone with enough respect to let him know what is going on next time.
But getting canned because you were boinking the bosses daughter is just way to cliche.
Of course he could just put another bun into Little Miss Micky D's hot steamy little oven.

Would this bad report be for other potential employers? Because if that is the case he'd be in big trouble because then you could sue. Otherwise I wouldn't sue over a McD's job. Surely he can get another one. Is there a possibility that she lied? As for the abortion I am sorry. But there is really nothing you can do about it now. What's done is done.

It may be that it was too painful for the girlfriend to continue to be around your brother-in-law. You don't know the full story and maybe it was the best thing. He can find another job but if McDs give him a bad recommendation, that's another story and should be dealt with legally.

Um. No, I don't... I personally wouldn't get one, but at the same time, no one but me can say whay I can and can't to to MY body... The government has NO right to say I can't have an abortion, when the law doesn't recognize a fetus as a life.... just like they can't tell you that you can't.... eat cheese because someone in the government is lactose intolerant. They can't tell you to stop eating meat because the president is a vegitarian (he's not, but if he were). They have no right to do that.... it's taking away one of out civil liberties, that civil liberty being "LIBERTY". Get your head down from the clouds and realize, that just because you agree with the government on this, for all we know, they could put a ban on Eggs, Cheese, Meat, Artichokes. You don't like my opinion, then E-Mail me, and I'll fight for Pro-Choice-dom to my death!
So Mote It Be. Blessed Be

If that is the only basis on why he was fired, I would say you had some sort of suit. Except the fact that they always lie and say it was something else. I would tell him to go to another McD's in the area and get a job.

First of all--I'm sorry for your brother-in-laws loss. But all bringing a lawsuit will change is the number of dollars in his bank account. It will keep him dwelling on this painful time in his life for years while the lawsuit drags on. My sisters baby girl, Marissa, died when she was 1 day old due to the hospitals neglect. They were in court for 8 years. They won their case and got a lot of money, but their pain is still the same. They had to repeatedly rehash every detail of her death at every turn. Tell your brother-in-law that the money is not worth the constant pain.

You have no recourse against McDonalds whatsoever, you could try to go after the owner, but any lawer will want a huge fee BEFORE he gets involved because the case would lose. The gal hs a legal right to do what she did... end of story.

I don't think you have much of a case. Just forget about this and your brother-in-law was never a father. The embryo was never born nor did it get to grow to become a child. How is this your business? Don't you think your brother-in-law should deal with this his own way? Just stay out of it.
