There's this guy that I really, really like and I can't go out with him yet - at least, not for rite now. whenever he asks me to hang out with him, i always have to say i can't and it really really REALLY sucks because i like him a lot. he hasnt been calling me lately and i miss him a lot and i miss his calls. he says he really likes me and he's been so obvious about it since forever but he only calls sometimes now, and this happened after i said maybe.

do guys hate the word maybe? does he not like me anymore?

You should say : I want to but am not allowed to. If you say maybe he thinks you doubt him instead of knowing it is something you can't do anything about and like him anyway. be clearer.
Also, sometimes you can replace maybe with might... it has a slightly different ring to it...

Why did you say maybe? That word tends to come across as a softer way of saying 'no thanks'. More often than not, maybe ends up being a 'no' instead of a 'yes'.

Most people don't like "maybe" except those that prefer any thread to cling to rather than hearing an out right "no".

Why not just be honest with people and instead of saying "maybe", say yes or no and explain why...that's preferable to being left hanging, which is what a 'maybe' does.

if you really want to go out with him, then go out with, what you are doing is called leading him on. Basically you are teasing him, he will eventually move on to some one else, and stop calling you.
