I have known this guy for years and I have come to think of him as my "back up". I really care about him and i am sure that i love him on some level, but it has never worked out for us. If i get old and never get married he is the guy that will be there and marry me. Does anyone else have a person like this? If not is this wrong?

i have one. the guy knows he is my "back up," too. i mean he cares, and it doesn't make him happy, but he is still there for me. just like you, i love this guy on like a small level. we have gone out before and there was something there, and like 1/10 of that something is still there, and he knows it. however, its just not right for us to go out again, unless i want a boyfriend, i know he'll be there.

I suppose it's an OK thing to do, but I wouldn't do it myself. I don't want to get married.
