Very good question. There are many things in the Bible which are not meant as teaching. The examples you gave are just a few of the many that are there for other reasons.
Biblical inerrancy, is the Bible's privilege of never teaching error. Does this mean that every statement in the Bible is divine teaching? Of course not! The Bible does not always teach. There are many statements in its various books that are there for historical, geographical, poetic or other reasons. However, whenever a biblical author intends to teach us something, the Holy Spirit intends that too. Everything the Bible teaches is without error, but everything in the Bible is not meant as teaching. Each author was left free by the Author to express himself according to the ideas of his own day. It is the revelation in the Scriptures that is important.
May the Lord's peace be with you!

What "modern society" accepts or rejects when it comes to the bible doesn't change anything that's in the bible. Modern society is NOT an ultimate authority. No one can pick and choose which parts of the bible to accept and reject. You either accept it all or reject it. There are many things in the bible that are symbolic, there are many things in the bible that are literal. For example when Jesus says He is the door, I know that it is not literal, but rather a metaphor. Are we going to condemn the writers of the bible for using forms of speech? Forms of speech are used to emphasize a point, Jesus used hyperbole (gross exageration) in many of His teachings. The bible however, is NOT an allegorical book. It means what it says and says what it means. Now, if you are referring to the law in the Old Testament, Jesus fulfilled the law and as such we are in the age of grace and not the age of the Law. The law was given so that man could see that no matter how hard he tried he could never do everything that would be required of him to commune with God. God and sin cannot coexist, that's why there were atonements in the OT. Through Jesus Christ the law is fulfilled, Jesus becomes the bridge if you will, that allows us all to re-establish the broken relationship between God and man that took place in the garden of Eden. God is not some ego maniacal monster demanding worship, He is a loving God desiring an eternal relationship with His creation. It is up to you to accept it or reject it. The bible shows us how God has related to man in the past and how we can relate to and with Him now.
The simple answer if there is such a thing, is to study the bible and see for yourself first hand what it is about. For many people it's easier to bash it than to study it. One of the main reasons is that truth hurts and no one wants to admit what they really are. It is only through God's grace and His Holy Spirit that we can even begin to comprehend His love for us. The bible teaches that non believers can't understand what the bible says because it is revealed to the believer through the Holy Spirit. for the revelation to begin you must be indwelt by the Holy Spirit, i.e, "saved". Many have tried to disprove the bible and have actually become some of today's more prominent evangelists.
To make your argument even more interesting, why not post specifically what some of these things are and include the bible reference for us to study?

Why carry out a touch Atheists thoroughly ignore about different Bible? Why do they in undemanding words %. and choose verses like ones about slavery or speeding little ones adverse to stones or the flood or in spite of and ignore concerning the others? i know those verses are there...yet they are not the in undemanding words ones. There are verses that are straightforward to swallow and some that are not. I, for one, pick now to not throw the newborn out with the bathwater if there is a few thing i do not realize. In different words "i do not realize why God suggested He created evil! That makes no experience! therefore the finished Bible makes no experience and is a e book of lies!" that's only a quitter's mentality. each each now and then in college the instructors suggested issues that made no experience, yet i did not basically completely blow out each thing they suggested reason i did not understand some thing. "i do not realize this math problem: therefore all those math complications make no experience and are incorrect. therefore my instructor is a liar! therefore I hate math and that i provide up even attempting. i'm now gonna bypass round and bash Math fanatics and all Math instructors clarification for 1 issue i did not understand."

A proper understanding of the Bible means that there are NO portions to be ignored.
Some portions of the bible use ancient instruments of rhetorical comparison, metaphors, and objective reporting of historical events.
One cannot take a few verses here and there and form an entire theology around them without understanding the systematic messages in the entire bible.
Unfortunately, some believers and non-believers will pick and choose their biblical verses to make a point, yet fail to synthesize the verse(s) with an overall thematic theological message.
So, to properly understand the bible you must first have a solid grounding in what is referred to as biblical hermeneutics. The term hermeneutics was derived from two words--the Greek verb hermeneuein, meaning to interpret, and the noun hermeneia, meaning interpretation.
**Hermeneutics is described as the development and study of theories and interpretation of the understanding of sacred texts.**
Some principles to keep in mind as you interpret the bible:
- Understanding the subject according to its social and historical context
- Assessing the historical social construction between the researcher and the subject
- Relating ideographic details to general theoretical concepts through abstraction and generalization
- Being sensitive to potential pre-conceptual theoretical contradictions between research design and actual findings
- Being aware of possible multiple interpretations among participants for a given sequence of events
- Being conscious of potential biases or systematic distortions in the subject’s narratives
For those who have studied hermeneutics formally or informally, it becomes easier to determine when metaphors or ancient instruments of rhetorical comparisons are being made in the scriptures. Hence when I train future clerics, church teachers, etc., they are equipped with the right tools to then expound to others.
Despite the difficulties in reading such a profound book, investigation will also reveal that there exists NO SINGLE SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY that has been shown to prove error, factually or doctrinally, in the Bible. Yes, there is plenty of speculation and hypotheses, but not a single verifiable fact.

The things of God are spiritually discerned. When Jesus Christ came, He was the fulfillment of all the law. I assume you are meaning why don't we follow all six hundred something of the Old Testament laws? Because gentile believers were never under these laws in the first place.
I mean this in all friendship, but you can answer your own question by reading the new testament and finding out how God would have us live.

Some of them are not meant to be taken literally and the ones that are not meant for this day and time.
Or at least that's the way I see it. If you have a problem with what I believe to be true then I am terribly sorry.

I read it all and I believe it all applies, that doesn't mean I have to like it.
We are human and we are guilty of the sin of pride. Modern society has absolutely nothing to do with.

Those who lean unto there own understanding of scripture are leading others astray and blinded by their "pride!" But this has to occur for the Kingdom of God is coming to this earth and establish His way as the only way.
Pride is man's downfall. The End of the circle of man's self rule will be the beginning of Christ's Kingdom but that "pride" must be broken first!
