How old are they now?
My son is gay--so I saw this issue from the other side.
I wouldn't say ANYthing until they are at least 14, and maybe older if they aren't truly mature. Young children don't need to know this, it would serve no purpose at all.
They may take it very poorly, but then, this generation has been exposed to homosexuality much more than any previous generation---and they seem to be more accepting of it. So they may be cool with it.
Either way, stress to them that YOU haven't changed one bit from the father they have always known---all that has changed is how much they KNOW about their father. That is the ultimate way to acceptance, and helped me a great deal.
I wish you luck & blessings...and I hope they can accept it easily. You may also want to introduce them to PFLAG, which can help this sort of thing.

How old is your son's and could they digest this at their age? If they are old enough to be told then by all means tell them, if they already don't know. Children see more than we think so they might already have a idea dad is.

Just keep yourself in the closet until they reach adulthood. At this time in history there's just too much stigma attached to gay males and your boys don't need to carry that kind of baggage while they are still children. Probably they will suspect it by the age of 18 and when they reach 21 you can tell all.

If they are your genetic offspring then you are not fully homosexual. You are more likely to be bi-sexual currently going through a phase. How old are the boys? I suggest waiting until they are old enough to understand the concept of sexuality and preference. You are lucky to have gotten custody given people's attitude today. Establish a track record of being a good father first and then share the news when they are old enough to understand.

I think that you should let them figure it out on their own. I know that it might not be what you had in mind for advice but it may work out better like that!
