I'm getting my XP Home laptop updated to XP Pro. I intend to use it with 5-10 computers. 1) Are there any programs (besides Hamachi) that will let me view files from it from anywhere w/o installing software? And 2) Anything where I can create roaming profiles so users can log on to it from any computer? Im not sure if Pro supports this but is there any program you can get to do this? Thank you very much. Any knowledge is accepted!

There are a couple of programs I will suggest you look into.

The first is LogMeIn. Their free version allows you to connect remotely to your computer via a website login at logmein.com. I think an advanced (not-free) version may even allow you to share files and folders over the internet. This is similar to VNC, but better because I can access my computer through my wireless router and firewall.

The second is Remote Desktop Connection. Companies use this to remotely login to servers or fix users' computers. You can use this to create a roaming profile. Only one person at the computer or one remote user can use the Windows XP machine at a time and this is only available in Windows XP Professional. If you need concurrent users or more file sharing, I would suggest you try to contact a Microsoft Partner and look into Windows Small Business Server or Windows Server 2003. These also have these capabilities and more! Good luck; please reply if you need clarifications.

I guarantee you that your setup will NEVER work correctly. EVER
