I am constantly thinking and watching out for speed cameras and mobile speed traps and wondering how many people in this country have actually got a clean licence.I also think about why our local council don't switch off the traffic lights around our town roundabouts from 9pm til 6am when there are only 4 cars on the road to save us from sitting waiting for no one approaching from the right.

I'm a Truck driver mate. Been doing it for over 20yrs now & to be honest, when you've driven as far as me & spent as many hours behind the wheel as me, you think about everything!....seriously!..everything!...from sex to the household bills to be paid.
I sing along to songs on the radio.
I try to do the quizzes on the radio.
I practice doing different accents, depending on where i am.
I talk to myself alot too...ya know...asking myself questions etc.
I also analyse other drivers.....trucks are limited to 56mph, so when a car is flying past, it feels like your doing 20mph!, but after watching other drivers for so long...i can predict their intentions pretty well now & to be honest....most are ok, but some are just a serious danger to be on the road.
I have a favourite time to drive also.....

Clear blue sky, very sunny, window down, got my shades on, the motorway is flowing nice, i'm at top speed, with the cruise control on, fully loaded (as the ride is smoother), nice warm breeze coming in, listening to " Driving Home for Christmas" by Robert Palmer. Hope this helps buddy!..Good Luck with the Art project thingy!.

I know this is really bad, but when im driving, i think about all the potential disasters that could happen,

like a woman walking out into the road with a pram infront of her and i go straight into them,
or a kid running out into the road chasing a football,
or a car wizzing out of nowhere and going straight into me,
or i suddenly lose control of the wheel and the car just speeds up and i have no control

there are so many - and i just imagine that happening when im driving, thats why i make silly mistakes because im so afraid that this will happen to me one day - really must stop that.

oh and sometimes, i think about my wedding (im engaged) and how it would turn out in about 5 years time...would i still be happy (im having doubts you see).

Not sure what art has got to do with it, but since you're asking, my answer is the traffic and pedestrians. Because most of the time the danger on the road comes from other vehicles, not from the road itself. And pedestrians because they are even less protected from the traffic.

If I drive home late on a Sunday night, I sing along to a CD cos theres no one else on the road to see me lol.

If my concentration is interupted by a speed camera, or s'camera sign, I swear and curse the b*stard s'cam(era) parnerships and the government until I go back to listening to the music.

I can basically think of anything that is important to me at the moment, but on the background I constantly analyse what's going on on the road, forecast what is going to happen and check the accuracy of my forecasts as events unfold.

As soon as I smell danger, I drop all the other thoughts and fully concentrate on the road.

All other cars on the road.
Traffic signs and signals.
Children on the sidewalk.
People on bicycles,
Any emergency vehicles.
Snow, ice, water, oil spills,
Construction hazards.
My speed.
Any strange noises coming from the car,

Cars approaching a stop sign or light while I'm there.

In other words, i concentrate on my driving.

I think about checking my mirrors every 90 seconds or so , i think about whats happening 100 yards in front of me and try to read what may happen , and most of all i think about leaving home in the morning and getting back there safely .
