if you awknowledge that god has given you this chance to come back....why then would you need a huge, violent "entity" to show you how to get back home? why do churchs still exist, when god can be worship with family, in your own home. assuming you believe, you would know that ceremonies and pomp are for the HUMANS involved........
since the catholic and every other sect of christianity is sprung from a very controlling monarch that was losing his empire. if that doesnt call the beliefs into question, then the fact that most of what christianity has become is nothing like it was certainly wouldnt.....
ITS ABOVE LOVE AND RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER, NOT HEAVEN AND HELL. its about getting out there to make your community and the people in its lives better. thats why america was great...not the freedom, it was the people.we have freedom now, dont we...... im not saying this for a fight, just to maybe spark a new idea in your head. if i didnt, defend your point with reason, not hate,

None, right now. I don't do church, and right now, churches aren't butting into my life.
If certain right-wingers get their way, then their church's religious beliefs might infect the laws that I have to live under. If that should happen, I plan to practice civil disobedience.
So, the answer for me is "NONE."

The church was originally people who came together to worship God and learn more about Him, no monarch involved. God tells us to not stop fellowshiping with believers. He also tells us we need structure by describing who elders should be and how to pick them. You also have to remember that it's easy for people to get off on the wrong track and develop major misunderstandings if there is no system of checks. Isolationism is a very bad idea. That's how "out of control" groups like Jones are able to control the people they dupe.
You also have no information that says "every" sect of Christianity is from controlling monarchs. That's a very poor understanding of history. Several of the denominations began despite monarchs and the ruling class. And not all churches emphasize heaven and hell.
It seems you have had a bad experience or your listening to someone who has had one. I've also known churches who don't have a good understanding of God's intentions but I know more who do. And there are millions of Catholics who love God and serve Him faithfully so don't just deny any body of believers because you don't understand the underlying principle that God works with within them.

My church doesn't control me at all. I am responsibile for my own actions. The reason for the church is to educate and feed our spiritual sides. I attend church every Sunday because I enjoy it, and I love to learn about God. Often times, I hear a good message and I realize the shortcomings in my life that I need to make right. I am still my own person, and live according to what I believe is right. As far as attending at church verses worshiping at home... there is a scripture, Hebrews 10:25 that says, "...do not forsake the assembling of yourselves..." Pastors and teachers are appointed by God to be the educators of believers. I read my Bible on my own, and also attend church to receive a message sent through the Pastor. It has helped me greatly in my life, especially during a time of deep hurt. I think I am a better person for it, and only hope that I can help others that are hurting. That is my thought on the question. Have a blessed day.

Not sure why, but I am still amazed at all these 'facts' being posted without a single reference to any of them.
"since the catholic and every other sect of christianity is sprung from a very controlling monarch that was losing his empire"
Martin Luther was a very controlling monarch??/ I didn't know that.

What are you talking about? My church is a place where I go and get taught the bible. It is also a place I fellowship with other believers, and the bible says not to forsake that. It is a place I can grow in the grace and knowledge of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We also praise and worship the Lord together in music, and it's great.
It sounds like you've had very bad experience in a church at some point in time. Find one that teaches God's word and is alive in Christ. It will be much different!

Why do they have bars when you can just hang out and drink at home?
Why do they have stores when you can shop online?
Why do they have dance clubs, when you can just stay at home and dance next to your radio?
Why do they have gyms when you can just spend the money to buy equipment to work out at home?
Last time I checked MY church is not violent and doesn't have any control over my life. It is a nice, peaceful place to go to worship and fellowship with other believers.

Chruch has no control over my life. I think its ridiculous when peoples lives are run by religion. So much that they are biggots and refuse to give anything else a chance. The sad truth is that it is impossible to know the exsistence of god or anything of the sort. So when the churches make such statements as what actions will make you go to heaven and hell is just outright stupid. When in fact they dont actually know.

Well, gee, when I go to church on Sunday at my evil Catholic church, I pretty much just pray with the community. Then we go to evil coffee shop and on Fridays we have our evil fish fry's. I just KNEW it! They're trying to control me through food, friends and fish!!! How dare they! I'll bet that Mother Theresa started it, didn't she? Here I thought I had made friends and was sharing in a community prayer service when all it really was, was a mind-controlling conspiracy! Well thanks for setting me straight!
PS - I'll pray for you tomorrow at Evil 11:30 Mass.

Zero. Some of us have come far enough a long that we can come to our own conclusions without the biased dogmas and doctrines of the Church.
