Firefox should automatically tell you when you need an update. Updates are released every 1-3 months that require your browser to be restarted. The latest version of firefox is Version 2.0.0.2

If you are using Firefox ver. 2.0.0.2, you don't have to do anything. Updates are done automatically.
If you want to search for updates manually:
1. Click on the "HELP" tab.
2. Then click on: "Check for Updates"

Click help and check for updates . Usually firefox checks for updates automatically. Goto tools>Options and check the auto update options there

You don't need to "look" for updates, Firefox will update itself when it detects a new update is available. It will also look for updates for your plugins once it has updated.
