hello the best thing for the dog and probably yourself is to brush the dog with a fine brush then use a couple of handfulls of baby oil rubbed in to the skin as it will replenish any oils the dog normally produces dogs are not like us and bathing them too many times wont do them any favours the other way you could bath your dog is to have two towels 1 dry and one for putting in water and washing dog down after using shampoo just get the towel wet and rub the dog down it works honest.

What about a child's plastic wading pool? There are many options. You could bathe him inside and train him to behave in the tub, trying to make the experience as pleasant as possible. I have three medium to large sized dogs and they get bathed in the tub at home and I use a hand held shower attachment for it. When the weather is warm, I go to the dog park and there are hoses to spray them off with. I bathe them there before they get in the car, I just take along their shampoo and towels.
If it is bad weather or I am not feeling up to the park or up to bathing at home I take them to the grooming salon.

Try getting him a kiddy swiming pool. Thats what I did and not only did my Goldens love it they actually stayed in the pool!
At 5 months old he is old enough to have a bath with the garden hose if the weather is nice and warm outside.

Groomers and kennels have a dog on a leash while they are in the tub, and there is a hook mounted to tie the leash on. You'll still have to block him from jumping out, but it will help and he will feel like you have more control over the situation.

Kiddie pool, 10 dollars at walmart, however if he likes water he's going to continue to play in it if there is water in it.
Or use a cheap leash or rope to tie him to the soap holder in the tub to prevent him from taking the leap!

Check a farm supply store, they usually have tubs of different sizes that you could use in the yard. If not a kid's pool will work just as well.
