OpenOffice reports Vista compatibility, and suggest running 2.2 for better Vista integration.
Truth be told I don't see a point of EVER upgrading to Vista, but if you really gotta have it, I say wait for at least a year. Fact of the matter is that any major revision of an OS is going to have glitches and bugs no matter who does it. Major linux releases have to get shaken out, MacOS 10.1 had its rough spots and I had crashes when I first ran it. Windows is no different. I say wait for the first service pack, or at least a year if you can't wait that long.
Beyond that, why upgrade at all? You're paying for a bigger, more bloated OS with lots of useless chrome and "Digital Rights Management" controls worked into the infrastructure. All that garbage is for the benefit of Microsoft and media corporations, not yours, and it will demand a bigger computer and you'll probably need to buy new hardware mostly for the sake of allowing Microsoft permission to police your own computer for pirated media in exchange for a few glossy tidbits like playing HD media or a fancy Mac-clone UI. For me, I see no positive value and some nontrivial liabilities to upgrading to Vista.

Open office should work on Vista.
Don't get Vista unless you have a reason to. I've stayed with 2000 and have never once had any desire to go to XP. 2000 is smaller and faster.
Just DON'T switch to Vista because it's the newest version. Stick with whatcha got until you have a good reason not to. (Like a program you have will only work with Vista).

Stay away from VISTA!!
Too many bugs, and severly needs patches for older applications and peripherals.
Remember what happened when Windows first came out?
Well Vista is worse!!!!
And Home is even worse than profesional.
Stay away all together

supply up listening to adverse comments. Vista is the way forward is absolutely the maximum suitable working device as quickly as you get to be attentive to it. the two working device Vista and workplace are Microsoft products so of direction are thoroughly nicely suited with one yet another.

Download Ubuntu instead. Your hardware will work faster, and stay fast. Also, Ubuntu is free and comes with Open Office preloaded. Lastly, download Beryl for Ubuntu to get effects which blow Aero out of the water.
