Is your place filthy or what?
If you really want to get this dog and plan on giving it a good forever home then you should'nt feel uncomfortable having someone come check on it.They're just trying to insure the poor thing is being well cared for.
I doubt that they'll check under your bed or in your dresser drawers or closets. They'll only be checking places the dog will be in which is below hip level for cords the dog could chew, chemicals the dog could get into and how and where it's kept to make sure it's not left in the yard on a chain without food, water, shelter and shade and in it's own filth. They won't care how much booze in in the fridge or how many empties are in the trash and if you'd slide the pan of dope under a chair no one will ever know it's there.
After they come once and see everythings fine you probably won't see them again unless you show them around your home naked

I work for a shelter that does that. I'll be the first person to admit, it's a little awkward. But, keep in mind that you're not doing it for them, you're doing it for the dog you love. They're not they're to grade you, your house, or your lifestyle. They're simply there to make sure you're holding up your end of the bargain and caring for the pet. It's a great way to ensure that the dog really is being taken care of. Sad to say, some people really do adopt dogs from shelters and then not take care of them. I suggest that you talk more with the people at this shelter, explain that you're not comfortable and why. They might be able to put your mind at ease or work something different out with you.

I have heard of animal shelters doing initial visits (or pre-adoption visits). My sister adopted a husky mix and they did a home inspections. The reason they do this is usually to make sure the dog is living indoors (most shelter will not adopt if you are planning on keeping the dog outdoors, to make sure the dog is in-fact living with you (many people adopt for family members or friends and the dogs are often put back into the system), or they want to make sure you do not fight dogs (the bully breeds are not the only ones whom people fight). Shelters are usually understaffed, so after the initial visit, I would not expect a second unless someone complained about you.

They likely won't even do that.. They are just checking maybe to see if you are worried about them showing up at anytime. If you are, then maybe they should be worried that they'll show up and find the dog tied outside, or left without food and water. If you aren't worried about it, they'll feel a little bit better in the fact that you will likely be taking care of the pet. They don't have the time and resources to check out abusive cases alot of time, pick up animals that are dropped off and apparently alot of the problems people on here experience, go unchecked by the shelters. I doubt that they have the time to visit with you monthly.

no I have never heard of such a think. i would not do that. as that can lead to house invasion. they can ask for refrence's and I would even allow them to come to my house one time before allowing me to adopt but no this is not proper conduct. No shelter here in maine would ever do that and I have been to many. Try another shelter. If there is a dog you like at that one then see if the other shelter can get that dog for you. We had to take alot of dogs from the katrina storm way up here in maine.

why are you not comfortable with that? IF you aren't comfortable being checked on as an owner maybe you shouldn't have a pet. They are just looking out for the welfare of the pet you are taking and they don't reallly know you. They do that at a lot of shelters, those animals have had enough abuse in their lives.

you won't be able to save each and all the canines interior the international, for one reason there is not any longer sufficient human beings to undertake them. Adopting an animal is amazingly high priced, maximum rescues do no longer ask for nominal feees anymore and the adoption fee is getting decrease using fact human beings can not locate the money for the charges. whilst the city is corrupt you may purely attempt the criminal expert regular of the state you reside in I had a dispute in North Carolina that grow to be dealt with by employing their workplace and that i opt to advise them noticeably.
