You need anti virus programs on any computer. Macs aren't targeted as often as PCs, but they aren't virus proof. You also need a program to keep spyware and other bad programs off your Mac. Ask at Best Buy or a Mac outlet.

Although there arent nearly as many viruses for a Mac, there ARE still viruses for it! This is only due to the fact that Apple only holds about 5 percent of the computer buying market. People who write malware are interested in infecting the masses! If A Mac were to ever gain any substantial part of the market, there would be tons of malware!

Don't bother with anti-virus. I've had my current powerbook for 2 years now, and haven't had any issues. Not one.

It's not just because Mac's have a smaller market, but more because they run on a Unix back-end and Mac OSX is much more secure. It doesn't have the flaws that exist on the Windows platform.

Simple advice: you can save your antivirus software money, and spend it on something else.

Have fun!
