Why this constant conflict between science and religion? Science is the method for unravelling the marvels of Gods creation, and if anything only serves to unveil His glory, not disprove his existence! So why is it the the two parties fail to see that science and religion are indeed compatible, and not opposing ideas?

Because one side is not open to new ideas and theories. I'll give you a hint which one...it's not science.

Science rarely attacks religion. The conflict is almost completely aggravated by those on the religious side of the equation. I agree that the two can be compatible, because they both seek to answer two completely different questions and operate by different means. The ground rules for the two disciplines are different.

Religious persons are the ones who attacked the observable fact that the earth is not the center of the universe and continue to attack the theory of evolution which has passed the tests of its validity. Certainly there are gaps in the theory, but most well founded scientific theories do have gaps.

When science enters into this conflict, it is to defend science from being infiltrated by unscientific and untestable ideas, as well as to try and advance the knowledge of our understanding of the world. It is also interesting to me that most religious persons do not understand the science they attack, and that many scientists understand theology and biblical scholarship much more deeply than Christian people do. So while I agree with your assertion that the two can be compatable, it is also relevant to note who is usually on the side of inciting the conflict.

Science and religion are compatible. Some people with a narrow understanding of the one may reject the other. Religion without science is mere superstition and science without religion is immoral.

"Religion must agree with science, so that science shall sustain religion and religion explain science. The two must be brought together, indissolubly, in reality. Down to the present day it has been customary for man to accept blindly what was called religion, even though it were not in accord with human reason."

Because religion is dogmatic.

Religion bases its authority on "revealed Truth," e.g. the Bible. The Complete Picture is right there on the page, and argument is forbidden; one simply believes and obeys. Science, meanwhile, is nothing but the continual process of correcting our observations and conceptions. Every new piece of evidence alters the picture. Hence it happens that occassionally science uncovers facts which appear to contradict concepts in the Bible (taken as literally as 5 year old would take it); and organized religion, exclusively concerned with defending its dogma, its pre-defined Truth, wastes no time in launching The Reaction. This is the history of nearly every "scientific discovery" of the last two millenia.

Depends on what religion you are talking about. Deism, for example, embraces science and uses it to gain knowledge about the creator through the creation. The two are not only compatible, they go hand in hand.

Science: Here is our interpretation of this thing.

Science: Oops. Well, we got it wrong. That old interpretation is now incorrect, for reason. We admit it.

Religion: Here is our interpretation of this thing.

Religion: No! We're still right! They're lying!
(or:)
It's a conspiracy by people who are mad that we're right!
(or:)
What? That was a misunderstanding. We never felt that way. We ALWAYS believed in the new interpretation.

That's the difference between religion and science.

Science is based on fact. Religion is based on faith. If your information base is centered around two opposing concepts, it is only natural that the parties on both sides of the issue will disagree on many things.

It's because too many people accept Darwins theory as fact.
Darwin had an idea(hypososis)
He did studies based on his idea which led him to believe his idea could be possible(theory)
Darwin came up with no conclusive proof(which would be the fact)

Science in it self is awesome if one does not stray from the equation of hypososis, theory, fact.

unfortunately people on this forum use only theory and not fact to try to disprove religion.

I agree. Science and religion are two totally different things , not two totally opposing things. We are in the 21st century now. Nice point. Peace be with you.

Perhaps because religious people seek answers from one source whereas science doesn't just settle with facts, they rather explore alternate possibilities. Being a Christian scientist myself, I really question why the two can't combine forces.

cause science has nothing to do with religion.
science = evolution/reincarnation an on going disease that will grow and grow until the earth has rotted from the human species destroying it.
religion = gods creation no evolution/nor reincarnation. we are to live in peace loving mother earth. Adam and eve didn't grow up with light bulbs cars smog or terrorist.
science allows us to destroy ourselves where in religion was made to continue in peace. in the bible it says love our brothers and sisters not scientifically define our brothers and sisters
