corned beef comes either cut as "flat" or "round" and has pickling spices with it. Perhaps your wife's objection is to "corned beef" as opposed to regular "beef brisket". Beef brisket is a fatty, grislie meat that tastes better cooked for a long time either on the grill or in the oven. Corned beef can either be boiled or baked (I prefer boiling). Regular brisket can be seasoned with a variety of spices, corned beef has a brine created or injected into it (depending on whether you boil or bake). The end result is that the texture and flavor are different.

There were point cut, flat cut, and rounds at the store this morning. The rounds were the most expensive. The flat and point cuts both said "brisket" in big letters right on the front of the package, but I didn't see that word on the rounds packages. It may have been there in teeny-weeny print somewhere, or the corned beef rounds may really be a different cut. That cut was 3x the price of the point cut, so it may not be brisket at all. Yes, I got the point cut.

The stuff you get sliced from the deli doesn't look like it was ever a brisket, but I don't know for sure. The point cut is the one with which I'm familiar; it is definitely a brisket.

it all the same slab of meat but it can be cut into 3 different cuts.the most common here are the flat and the round.i do not like the round because it has alot of fat layerd in it.i like the flat cut. most of the fat is on the outside, and it,s the cheaper cut.
corned means it has been cured with salts and or injections (like ham).
brisket is the original slab of meat, uncured and is usually sold whole at least here it is.because it,s popular for bar-b-ques.
good luck ><>
