I love food and eating GOOD food (read high in fat), I'm a single mom so I spend time w/my daughter during the day and work until 3am. The way I stay up is to snack, oddly tea makes me tired. I work-out for 1-1.5 hrs daily while my daughter is in pre-k and I drink plenty of water, no soda just a big cup of coffee in the morn. I must get a handle on my weight. Since behavioral modification charts, reading self and prevention, searching the internet and looking for inspiration w/my mommy friends are NOT helping I thought I'd expand my search for motivational stories to get myself on track.

I agree with lv, but also would add that along with smaller and more meals during the day a healthier snack at night wouldn't be bad, as it sounds like you're going to be up that late whether or not you're eating. Stuff that's high in fiber is filling, as are nuts and certain types of fruit (apples, pears, I'm told bananas but I don't like them).

Eat more of those sorts of snacks and less of the unhealthy sorts of snacks late at night. Don't go cold turkey though; eat half nuts/apples/whatever, and half Oreos and ice cream, and then only eat the Oreos and ice cream on the weekend and the nuts/apples during the week, and then only eat the nuts/apples at all. This will help your body and your palate adjust to the change.

Hey I'm a personal trainer and I think I can give you a little bit of helpful advice. What are you doing when you find yourself snacking? For me and most of my clients I find that most people are watching TV. The simple solution is to of course cut out TV and do something that inhibits snacking, like reading a book. You could even play some board or card games with your daughter, anything that is not friendly to snacking. It's really amazing how big of a difference it makes if one doesn't eat anything after 7pm (8 at the latest). The body is allowed to cleanse out impurities over the night whereas it spends time digesting food if snacks are eaten late into the evening. The key is to find what causes the snacking and eliminate it. For example don't buy snack foods so there is no temptation. It is much easier to avoid the tempation of a snack than to resist it. you simply are not consuming enough calories in the day time. so at night the body is starving and once you start eating it's hard to stop. eating several small meals throughout the day fixes this problem.
