I have been told that heroin is legal in U.K. (TRUE OR FALSE?) Also, are there Methadone clinics there, and are they expensive to come to? Doing a case study in America.

In defense of some of the replys I received...Methadone is now being prescribed for sufferers of "Chronic" back and spinal pain, because of its long term effect. Just as marijuana is now prescribed here for cancer pain and eye disease, so is Methadone. Not "EVERYONE" is a pothead or a drug addict. Some use these medications for medicinal purposes. Its good to see that the world is finally coming around to realizing the benefits of these medications. And as for the misleading "rumor" I heard, I will set my group member straight on that! Thanx to all, and I love your country!

A case study is currently being conducted in the UK to see if there is any benefit in providing Addicts with Heroin rather than Methadone. The figures appear to add up - the average Addict steals around £45K of goods every year, but if the Government were giving them Heroin it would cost around £12K a year.

This would obviously be done in conjunction with rehab and a great deal of support.

Its not a popular idea and one on which I am undecided, however, I can see some merit in it, especially when one bears in mind that Methadone replaces Heroin addiction with one to Methadone, and in the UK at least is often sold to provide money for Heroin.

Heroin is illegal in Britain it is a class A drug.
Heroin addicts who want to give up the habit must be registered to a doctor who will give him/her a prescription for Methadone he then goes to the pharmacy or local clinic for the drug.
We also have rehab clinics, some of these are private e.g
The Priory takes a lot of V.I.P guests costs start at £2,500 per week, we have others that are funded by the N.H.S these clinics are residential normally from 1 - 6 weeks.
Hope this helps.

Heroine is still illegale as a Class A substance under the misuse of drugs act, and simple possessions makes the person arrestable.

Yes methadone is legal un the U.k provided it is legal possession.
It can be supplied by a chemist on prescription, and its widest usage is to ease the symptoms from persons who are coming off Heroine.

A court inthe Uk can order somebody to attend a centre where they are kept clean by being prescribed with methadone.

Its a way of stopping heroine addicts from re-offending to feed their habit.

Heroin definatly not legal in UK. Don't know about methadone clinics but you can get methadone from doctors so probably got clinics around. Don't know about cost, private ones quite pricey i should think, but nhs ones would be free

false. Heroin is a class A drug (the most serious class) with very stiff penalties for posession and the possibility of life in prison for supplying it. There are methadone clinics but its a slippery slope!

Herion is illegal in the UK. I think there are clinics where addicts can annomisley (cannot spell without giving their name) at a mobile clinic & get a hit. Know this as do a druggie & psycho housing contract where the guy shoot up in front of us & was telling where & how he got his stuff.
