I think they would adapt fine. I would watch them pretty close for the first couple of weeks to make sure they don't go "overboard" but even if they did you could rescue them and they would never do that again. Other then that if it is a big boat they will still have plenty of space to run around in. Same thing as having an indoor cat who has about 1,000 Sqft to run around in.

We had a catamaran and took our 8 yr old cat on a three week vacation. She hid for the first 24 hrs, then came out and started exploring. She liked it best at night. She would explore on the deck at night. We brought along a lot of those plastic disposable litter pans that are about three dollars each. We just threw them away every other day and opened up a new one. She did very well.

Having had cats aboard for years let me add:

hang an old beach towel over the side, trailing down to near the water...preferably both sides.that way, when they they go overboard ( and they will at least once..they have no reference to the fact that big blue floor outside the boat isnt really a floor..... they can swim to and climb up the towel.....or at least hook into and hold onto while they yowl for help.......

We used to have a narrowboat (45ft x 7ft) and our cat came on board a couple of times. He is a scaredy cat though and wasnt too happy. If we had given him more time I think he would have come around to it!

Give it a go! Just make sure they have a tag on with the name of the boat and a telephone number in case they go overboard!
