I got a summons in the mail, and it's for a day that I have a trip planned. I'm obviously not going to cancel it so what do I do?

Here's the thing though. It says that I am in a standby group. I am to call the day before to see if I actually have to report. So, basically, I may not have to end up going.

Has anyone else ever been on standby? When this happens are my chances of not having to go in good or not?

Hasn't happen to me but they are really good about rescheduling you if you call them...

Usually there is a return letter or a phone number, which you can use to postpone your jury duty, and tell them the reason why is that you won't be in town on the original date...usually they will give you a new date about 90 days out from the original date.

As for standby groups, yeah you have to call in the day before your date (whichever date is given to you most recent, like if you do get a postponed date call in the day before that date, if you don't get a postponed date, then call in the day before your original date). Usually you will be told that you don't need to come in (if you are in a standby group), but sometimes you will need to come in.

Good luck to you.

There should be a number to call listed on that letter you received. If you call that number, you can postpone your jury duty summons for a couple of months.

In a couple of months, you'll once again receive the jury summons envelope in the mail, and a new date and time will be given.

This happened to my husband. He called the court house and explained that we had a pre-planned paid for trip. They rescheduled his jury date. They were pretty nice about it. We live in smaller community, though and I would guess large cities might not be as accommodating. But, it can't hurt you to call.

Call the court house and tell them that you will be out of town that day and that you are unable to change these plans. Most likely they will tell you to write an explanation and attach it to the form and mail it back.

nicely everybody is going to declare it is your duty as a citizen to try this. yet i be attentive to folk who receive those issues in the mail field. and tear them up. They never get a decision or a cop on the door. How they gonna prepare you ever have been given it? in case you do no longer ought to sign for it there is not any info. people in elementary terms get nailed in the event that they call in to respond to the letter.

Yes, you need to write to the clerk of the court with an explanation ASAP. If you have substantiation, such as an electronic ticket, etc., include that also. They will then give you a dispensation.

On the day that you are on standby, call that you are not available because it is what is required of you. Call, in order that you will not be declared as in contempt of court.
